Waimea United Church of Christ, Covenant Against
Discrimination
We affirm that God is both the Creator and the Judge
of all humankind. We therefore should share God’s concern for justice and reconciliation
throughout human society and for the liberation of all people from every kind
of oppression. Because we are made in the image of God, every person has an
intrinsic dignity and is to be respected and not exploited. Our love for our
neighbor and our obedience to Jesus Christ and His message of salvation implies
a witness and discernment upon every form of alienation, oppression and
discrimination, and we denounce evil and injustice wherever they exist. To
these ends, we encourage the nurturing of safety within our church through care
for others and self-care, maintaining appropriate boundaries, and the
importance of referring those in need to supportive and helpful resources.
Likewise to these ends, we accept the US Federal Guidelines on what constitutes
discrimination of others.
